Shah Rukh a crescut intr-un mediu umil. Dupa ce a terminat scoala, s-a alaturat Academiei de Teatru Barry John. A aparut intr-o serie de piese si in curand a fost solicitat pentru un serial de televiziune numit Fauji. Serialul a avut un succes nebun, iar ofertele au inceput sa se inmulteasca si nu dupa mult timp Shah Rukh calatorea foarte des intre Bombay si Delhi. Cu seriale precum Circus si Umeed in palmares, era pregatit sa faca marele pas in cariera de film.
Primele lui succese au fost Deewana si Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman. Shah Rukh Khan era pe buzele tuturor si tinerii ii imitau manierele, aspectul si limbajul trupului. La scurt timp a primit primul sau premiu Filmfare pentru cel mai promitator debut in lumea filmului. Nu exista cale de intoarcere, caci acesta era doar inceputul drumului catre celebritate. Cu un palmares ce cuprinde succesele Bazzighar, Daar, Yes Boss, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai, Dil Se, Karan Arjun, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (si lista poate continua), Shah Rukh a devenit fara indoiala cel mai talentat si mai popular star din India de astazi. In zece ani de cariera in industria filmului a obtinut sapte premii Filmfare.
Desi numele sau de nastere este scris Shahrukh, el prefera ca numele lui sa fie Shah Rukh. Are doi copii cu Gauri: Arian şi Suhana.Nu a fost foarte bun in scoala, pana cand mama lui ia promis ca o sa-l ia la cinema, daca acesta trece. Tatal sau conducea o companie de transport şi a mamei sa a fost un magistrat. Ii plac jocurile pe calculator. Numele sau "ShahRukh" inseamna "faţă de rege". Domiciliul sau este intr-un conac Mannat numit in Mumbai. Fiind musulman, fiind casatorit cu o femeie hindusa, el si sotia sa combina ambele cartiere religioase a copiilor lor in educatie.
Parintii lui au murit inainte ca el sa intre in industria filmelor. Shahrukh considera ca este un mare regret ca ei nu au putut vedea ca fiul lor a devenit un actor. Are un caine pe care in cheama Chewbacca. Pe sora lui mai in varsta o cheama Shehnaz Lalarukh, pe tatal sau il chema Mir Mohammad Taj Khan iar pe mama sa Lateef Fatima.
Dupa moartea parintilor sai, Khan s-a mutat de la New Delhi la Mumbai in 1991. In acelasi an, el s-a casatorit cu Gauri Khan intr-o ceremonie de nunta hindusa. Ei au doi copii, fiul Arian (n. 1997) si fiica Suhana (n. 2000).
In 1993, Khan a castigat Acclaim pentru performantele sale în roluri villainous  ca un iubit obsedat si un ucigas, ca si in Darr si Baazigar.  Darr a marcat prima sa colaborare cu renumitul producator de filme Yash Chopra si banner-ul sau Yash Raj Films, cea mai mare companie de productie in Bollywood. Baazigar, khan jucand rolul unui obsedat de razbunare ucigandu-si iubita, acest film socand audienta neasteptat a formulei standard de Bollywood, khan castigand premiul sau pentru cel mai bun actor, Premiul Filmfare. In acelasi an, Khan a jucat rolul unui tanar muzician in kundan Shah's Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, o performanta care a obtinut si un Filmfare Critic Award pentru cea mai buna performanta. Khan sustine ca acest lucru este cel mai palpitant timp pentru el si filmele pe care le-a facut. In 1994, Khan, din nou, a jucat rolul iubitului obsedat / psiho 's în Anjaam. Desi filmul nu a fost chiar un  succes, Khan a obtinut performanta de Filmfare Best Villain Award.
In 1995, Khan apare in directorialul lui Aditya Chopra, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, un succes critic si comercial, pentru care a castigat două Filmfare Award pentru cel mai bun actor.  Filmul a avut un castig de peste 12 miliarde de euro, ceea ce face ca filmul sa fie unul dintre cel mai mare blockbusters.
In 2001, Khan a colaborat cu Karan Johar, pentru a doua oara de data asta in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham care a fost cel de-al doilea mare hit al anului. De asemenea, el a primit comentarii favorabile pentru performanta sa ca imparatul Asoka in istoricul epic  Asoka.
In 2003, Khan apare in drama romantica, Chalte Chalte. In acelasi an, el a aparut si in filmul, Kal Ho Naa Ho, scris de catre Karan Johar si regizat de Nikhil Advani. Performanta  lui Khan in acest film ca fiind un om cu boala de inima a fost apreciat. Despre film s-a dovedit a fi una dintre cele mai mari hit-uri din India si cel mai mare hit de peste Bollywood.
2004 a fost un an bun pentru Khan, comercial, cat si critic. El a aparut în filmul lui Farah Khan, Main Hoon Na. Filmul a fost un succes. A mai jucat rolul lui  Veer in filmul lui Yash Chopra's numit Veer-Zaara, care a fost cel mai mare hit din 2004 in India cat si in strainatate.
In 2006, Khan a colaborat cu Karan Johar pentru a patra oara cu melodrama, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. Este foarte apreciat in India si mult mai mult acest lucru in strainătate, pe piata, devenind cel mai mare Bollywood in piata de peste tot. A doua lui lansare a fost jucând in filmul de actiune Don, un remake din 1978 Don hit. Despre film a fost un succes.
Alta lansare a lui Khan a fost  in 2007 cu un film despre echipa nationala de hochei feminina din India, Chak De India. Castigand peste 639 milioane de euro, Chak De India a devenit cel de-al treilea cel mai mare film din 2007. În plus, Shahrukh Khan a primit al saptelea premiu Filmfare Award pentru cel mai bun actor ca antrenor al echipei.
Khan de asemenea a jucat  în filmul de mare debut al lui Farah Khan in 2007, Om Shanti Om. Filmul a apărut ca fiind cel mai mare blockbuster în India si in piata de peste ocean, precum si Shahrukh Khan a castigat o alta nominalizare pentru cel mai bun actor, la ceremonia de Filmfare.

If he was to die and were reborn, what or who would he like to come back as: As Gauri and have a husband like Shah Rukh!
One Talent, he would love to have most: Singing. He wishes he knew how to play a guitar. So whenever he went to a party, he would love to pick up a guitar and sing. He thinks it’s really cool.
If he were to be born again: he would love to be a singer-not a rock star, just a plain singer.
When and where is he the happiest: His computer room and bedroom. He can’t decide. He feels happy in both places. He is at peace with himself when he is lying in bed with Gauri chatting.

School Life with Friends: There were four of them and called themselves the ‘c’ gang. As they were from the c-section. They are still friends and are married friends. Like he married Gauri who’s best friend is married to Vikas. He has never had more friends and close friends than these three-except perhaps, Chikki. Anyway, they were very cool, yanky gang, very American. They loved wearing Nike and they’d have a little spring in their walk, like the Americans and the blacks do. Like in Grease.

Fun with Teachers: Whenever they got a new teacher, he’d pretend to have an epileptic fit. The students would pull off his shoes and would force him to walk bare feet. Everybody knew that Shah Rukh was probably taking his ass. He was really very wicked.

Relationship he shared with his teachers: One person who really shaped his life was Brother Eric D’Souza. He was short and sweet. He taught him all the games and a lot about life. He used to smoke a lot and Shah Rukh used to tell him that only weak people smoked so much. Now he does it.

The Arrogance: Shah Rukh would return home at nine every night, after taking part in elocution, exhibitions, or rehearsing. Later at night he would play Cricket under the street lamp. He would study at the last minute as he had a good memory. At college he was quite lost as he came from a sophisticated school. But he wasn’t a pseudo guy with an accent like most guys from St. Columbia’s get. He admits that he learnt to be arrogant because of the atmosphere in school. He had it for 13 years in school. That amount of arrogance he says is good. Then that attitude continued at Stephens College, which he left after a year. He then joined Hansraj College.

Any Girlfriends at College? He had very good friends but never affairs. He would sit with girls. Some would help him write his notes like Usha and Anju Shah. He never sat with a girl and chatted with her. He was always in a gang. Coming from a segregated school, his relationship with girls had always been from a distance. St. Columbia made him a sort of Dennis the Menace, where falling in love was stupid-macho men don’t fall in love.
